When you are sitting outside your favorite McDonald fast food outlet, trying to concentrate on school work, something like this happens.
Scenario: It's raining outside. The Macs is located in a suburban area.
You first notice: Hardworking students.
The amicable party incharge of MacDonalds that you saw 30mins ago with all the kids clamouring over him is smoking. You think of the kind of message and implications this scene carries.
The soothing sound of raindrops hitting a canvas sheet in front of a store. The positioning of the canvas sheet is now against the law.
As the raindrops hit the ground, you refocus your attention onto the possible hortonian overland flow that may be occurring. You redirect your attention to the vegetation around the area and consider the impacts of vegetation on the rate of infiltration. Looking at the puddle gathering on the compacted soil nearby, you consider the anthropogenic factors that have led to the ground being impervious. You consider the fact that urban heat islands may be in action, due to the low albedo and high heat retaining capacity the concrete around you that is causing the rainfall. You identify that this rainfall is convectional in nature and realize that it is the climate around the equator. The impermeability of the ground around you allows you to recall that this is the microclimate of a urban area, which is somewhat like a desert. You recall the Koppen-Geiger classification system, in which the climate you are in is supposed to be Af, but due to the urban sprawl, it has become some what Bwh.
You try to refocus your attention to something else that isn't geography. Your eyes take you to an advertisement stuck onto the said canvas sheet. You consider the economics behind that move. Upon closer examination of the advertisement, you determine the context to be of telecommunications industry in Singapore. Immediately, the market structure of oligopoly appears in your mind, and you immediately remember that the oligopolistic market may practice product differentiation. You evaluate the effectiveness of the advertisement and attempt to see if it conveys any useful information. You then evaluate by saying that the money spend printing the advertisement could be better used elsewhere such as providing better services to the consumers. This brings to your attention that this advertisement has opportunity cost involved, and you are reminded that this is the first theory that the school ever taught you about economics, limited resources to fulfill unlimited wants.
As you try and concentrate yet again, you see the MRT train in the distance. The market structure of monopoly hits you, and you are reminded that the transport system practises price discrimination. In fact, it is 3rd degree price discrimination, and you consider the factors that make a good price-discriminative product, which is the non-transferable factor in the product itself.
I need some help. Seriously.
